In 2009, the self-taught handbag designer founded Uptown Redesigns, a collection of "upcycled" handbags created from old leather jackets salvaged from thrift shopsconsignment boutiques and the back of her own closet.
"Like many Americans, my husband and I were at a point in our lives where we were trying to scale back on our spending," Philpott said. "So in an effort to keep my creativity stimulated, I looked around the house and got resourceful.
From her Uptown home studio, Philpott designs and sews one-of-a-kind accessories using not only a jacket's leather, but its pockets, stitching, belts and buckles, so nothing would go to waste.
Know this is a seriously stupid question and probably common knowledge, but I really don't know whether or not people were making knock-offs in the 80's or how common it was. I'm asking because I found this gorgeous "Fendi" bag at an old-fashioned store. The employee didn't know if it's real or not, but she said the one who sold ito the store said it was from the 80's.
Also, the bag is very scuffed and one thread is lose, but I figure if it's actually from the 80's, the quality is probably due to the age of the bag. The rest of the bag appears to be in good shape, though. I'm familiar with how you can tell whether or not a Chanel or Louis is fake, but I have no clue when it comes to Fendi haha.
Hermes International SCA, the French maker of Kelly handbags and silk scarves, raised its target for annual revenue growth and said first-half operating profit shoulgrow “significantly” more than sales.
“Hermes is well positioned in a buoyant luxury-goods market, delivering fast sales and earnings growth while keeping its status as one of the most exclusive brands around,” Pierre Lamelin, an analyst at CA Cheuvreux in Paris, said in an e-mailed note. He rates the stock “underperform.”
The quarterly revenue increase was led by the Asia-Pacific region where wealthy consumers are purchasing more high-end watches and accessories. Worldwide sales of luxury goods may rise 8 percent this year as demand strengthens in the U.S. and Europe and emerging-market shoppers splurge on costly handbags and and various, Bain & Co. said in May.
